 
What is the Summer Youth Program?
The Summer Youth Program provides an opportunity for students to gain hands on experience in a health care environment and develop personal skills while receiving volunteer hours. We are looking for students who are self-motivated and have a genuine interest in the well being of others. Some of the activities that the students may participate in include: recreation therapy programs, fundraising, assisting the nursing staff, special events and friendly visiting with patients. The Summer Youth Program takes place at St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital as well as Mental Health Services.
What are the requirements to become a Summer Youth Volunteer?
· Students must be at least 14 years old or have just completed grade 8
· They must commit to volunteering a least 40 hours over at least 4 weeks throughout July and August
· Must submit one letter of reference
· A successful interview with the Summer Youth Coordinator
· Once accepted into the program, must submit a completed Criminal Reference Check, up-to-date immunization record and proof of a negative mantoux skin test (TB test)
· Must attend an orientation scheduled for the end of June
· Need to be reliable, motivated, compassionate, flexible and work well with others
