Queen's students announce $150,000 pledge to support redevelopment at Providence Care
November 21, 2007 - Queen’s University student’s Goat Face Non-Profit Group today pledged $150,000 toward the future of Providence Care’s palliative care program.
New bus means more activities, outings for patients and residents
October 24, 2007 - Shopping at the mall, visits to the art gallery and road trips– all these are now much more possible for patients and residents at Providence Care. That’s because generous support from the community, the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation and the Providence Care Foundation has allowed for the purchase of a new $100,000 wheelchair accessible bus to serve Providence Manor, St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital and Mental Health Services.

October 18, 2007 - The renamed gymnasium at St. Mary's of the Lake hospital honours the Kiwanis’ long-time commitment to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation program at Providence Care. The Kiwanis of Kingston have raised more than $280,000 for the program over the past 15 years, including a $90,000 donation from the Kiwanis Club of Kingston directly.

June 7, 2007 - A recent survey of complex continuing care patients and their family members at St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital found an 86 per cent satisfaction level related to the quality of care and treatment received. May 10, 2007 - Providence Care has been renamed Providence Care. The shorter name and new logo were officially unveiled today by Board Chair Larry Norman at Providence Care's three main sites: Providence Manor, St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital and Mental Health Services.
Providence Manor's Medical Director working to open hospital in Kenya
May 8, 2007 - The Medical Director of Providence Care's Providence Manor is helping establish a pediatric hospital in Kenya with support from community members. Dr. Ivan Stewart has been travelling to the African country several times a year since 1986, first as a family doctor and then working with disabled children. Dr. Stewart's next trip to Kenya is planned for May 12, when he will be discussing the contruction of a 120 to 200-bed hospital for children in Kijabe, 60 km north of Nairobi.
Robotic device being used to assess stroke patients
April 17, 2007 - Researchers at Providence Care's St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital and Queen's University are hoping that a robotic tool can improve assessment and treatment of stroke patients, leading to faster and more effective rehabilitation and recovery.
Providence Care receives full three year accreditation
April 11, 2007 - Providence Care has been granted full accreditation for three years by the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA). In particular, Providence Care met all 21 patient safety required organization practices.
New wheelchair improves quality of life for spinal cord patients
April 2, 2007 - Providence Care's St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital has purchased a specialized titanium wheelchair for people with spinal cord injuries courtesy of a donation from the Rick Hansen Foundation. The state of the art wheelchair is ideal for active patients with spinal cord injuries who want to be as mobile as possible.
New psychiatrist joins Providence Care's geriatric outreach team in Belleville
March 21, 2007 - Providence Care's Mental Health Services has recruited a full-time geriatric psychiatrist to treat clients in the Hastings and Prince Edward region. Susan Ilkov-Moor, a recent graduate of the regional psychiatry program at Queen's University, joined the Mental Health Services community outreach team March 19.
Refuge and Renewal: museum exhibit chronicles history of psychiatric care in Kingston
March 13, 2007 - A new exhibit about the history of mental health care at Kingston's original psychiatric hospital will chronicle the transformation of care from incarceration to rehabilitation at the end of the 19th century. The exhibit by the Museum of Health Care, “Rockwood Asylum: Refuge and Renewal 1878-1905,“ is being unveiled at Providence Care's Mental Health Services site to celebrate our staff and mark 150 years of providing mental health care in Kingston.
Local company makes largest private donation ever to Kingston's hospitals
February 21, 2007 - Kingston's Homestead Land Holdings Limited and the family of A. Britton Smith, Q.C., who owns the company, have made the largest gift to the university hospitals of Kingston in the hospitals' combined 160 year history. The $2 million pledge to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation will support the redevelopment of Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and Providence Continuing Care and will benefit the 500,000 people in southeastern Ontario who rely on the hospitals for their health care needs.
Local Legions donate more than $30,000 to support Kingston's hospitals and Providence Manor

The gift to the University Hospitals Knigston Foundation - the fundraising arm of Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General and Providence Care - will benefit the redevelopment of Kingston's hospitals and Providence Manor.
