Kingston's university hospitals receive largest ever corporate gift with $1 million pledge from Empire Life

December 13, 2006 - Empire Life has made a pledge of $1 million to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation to support Hotel dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and Providence Continunig Care Centre. The gift continues Empire Life's investment in the future of Kingston's hospitals, which the company hopes will inspire others.


New business partnership will help mental health clients

December 5, 2006 - It's a win-win partnership. A new business opportunity between Providence Care's Voices, Opportunities & Choices Employment Club (VOCEC) and Malemo Sales Limited will provide job opportunities for mental health clients living in the community.  

 

Learning computer skills aids recovery of mental health services clients

November 16, 2006 - A unique computer course is promoting recovery for a group of clients at Providence Care Mental Health Services. The pilot project is a 10-week interactive training program that teachers computer use and functioning for an hour a week to clients from Community Connections, a program for mental health clients living in the community. 

 

Providence Care physician visits Africa to help refugees with disabilities

October 5, 2006 - A rehabilitation physician at Providence Care's St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital  has made recommendations to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to improve conditions for the disabled in an African Refugee Camp. Dr. Joy Wee visited the Dadaab Refugee Camp in Kenya in July to determine the feasibility of Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) at the camp.

 

St. Vincent programs join BGH

October 1, 2006 - As of October 1, St. Vincent de Paul Hospital programs have been transferred to Brockville General Hospital (BGH) from Providence Care. There will be no reductions in the number of hospital beds and residents of Brockville, Leeds and Grenville will continue to receive high quality hospital care. It will now be known as Brockville General Hospital Garden Street Site. Thank you to all of our staff, physicians and volunteers for your dedicated service. We wish you well as you move on to a new future with Brockville General Hospital.

Complex Continuing Care BBQ to feature live music and prizes

September 8, 2006 - It’s a different kind of barbecue with a guest list that includes palliative care patients, the Mayor of Kingston and local musicians who play Irish music. Providence Care’s St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital Complex Continuing Care barbecue will bring together about 200 patients, staff, volunteers and family members for fun, prizes and live music. Complex Continuing Care patients are adults with multiple needs who require 24-hour nursing care.

 

VON and Providence Continuing Care Centre confirm program transfer date

August 17, 2006 - On September 2, at 12:01 a.m. the governance and management of St. Vincent de Paul Hospital's Adult Day, Diabetes Education and Lifeline services will transfer to the VON Lanark, Leeds & Grenville Branch.

 

Ministry approves Brockville hospital transfer plan for Oct. 1

August 9, 2006 - On Sunday October 1, 2006 at 12:01 a.m. St. Vincent de Paul Hospital and Brockville General Hospital (BGH) services will consolidate under BGH governance and management.
