Providence Care's Geriatric Psychiatry Program provides specialized care and consultation to clients, families and primary care providers through the following services:

Outpatient & Ambulatory Services
Outpatients are seen at the Providence Care Mental Health Services site in Kingston. Ambulatory services also provides outreach to people living in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington, Hastings, and Prince Edward. A physician's referral is required. Geriatric Psychiatry Outreach Teams
The interdisciplinary outreach teams provide community-based assessment, consultation, short-term treatment, and follow-up for clients and families at their place of residence. Anyone can initiate a referral to an outreach team but the agreement of the family physician is required.

In addition to specialized client care, the teams are mandated by the Ministry to promote education, community development and partnerships. Team members collaborate with the primary care system to enhance services through a shared care approach. Local providers continue in their role as primary caregivers, with the outreach teams lending specialized support.
Psychogeriatric Resource Consultants
Providence Care Mental Health Services is the administrative lead for three Psychogeriatric Resource Consultants funded through the Ontario's Strategy for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia. The consultants support staff working in long-term care facilities and community agencies that serve older clients with dementia/mental health problems and difficult behaviours.
