Providence Care's Geriatric Psychiatry Program provides district-wide inpatient, outpatient, and community outreach services for older persons with severe mental illness, cognitive impairment and behavioural disturbance.
Education, community development, and research
The Geriatric Psychiatry Program promotes the education and skills enhancement of primary care providers at local and regional levels. Student placements are available across the full spectrum of services.
In collaboration with community partners, the program identifies developmental projects and other strategies to enhance the capacity and integration of the care system.
Professional staff are engaged in clinical research as well as program and systems evaluation. The dissemination of research findings and best practice outcomes are part of the program's mandate.
Kingston Scales
Developed by Providence Care's Dr. Robert Hopkins and Dr. Lindy Kilik, the Kingston Scales consist of a number of scales designed for the assessment of geriatric patients suspected of suffering from a dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease. (Click on the logo for more information.)
