Providence Care's Schizophrenia Rehabilitation Service provides treatment and rehabilitation for inpatients at different stages of their illness and recovery. The goal is to enable individuals to return to their community at the earliest opportunity. Emphasis in the acute phase of illness is on medication management. Counselling and psychotherapy is available on an individual basis through members of our interdisciplinary team.
There are three inpatient units:
Assessment, Diagnosis and Stabilization Service (23 beds)
Assessment and treatment for persons experiencing an acute relapse or highly disruptive phase of their serious and persistent mental illness.
Psychosocial Rehabilitation (24 beds)
Individual assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to enable clients to return to community living.
Rehabilitation Continuing Care (24 beds)
Treatment and rehabilitation for patients whose long-standing psychosis requires a longer term admission. Each person's potential for community reintegration is fostered by frequent outings and a commitment to continuity of care.
Admission & Discharge
Individuals are typically admitted to the Assessment, Diagnosis and Stabilization Unit. Discharge planning begins on, or prior to, admission. The majority of patients are discharged home once their condition has stabilized. Community services or transfers to other inpatient units are arranged according to individual needs.
