About Us

Providence Care is southeastern Ontario's leader for rehabilitation, specialized geriatric care, complex continuing care, specialized mental health care, palliative care and long-term care.

Who are we?
Providence Care is southeastern Ontario’s leader for rehabilitation, specialized geriatric care, complex continuing care, specialized mental health care, palliative care and long-term care.

Through affiliation with Queen’s University, Providence Care is a major centre for teaching and research – many of our staff hold joint appointments with Queen’s, and conduct clinical research to develop cutting edge treatment for our patients.

Providence Care was founded by the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul in 1861 – we continue their legacy by striving to meet the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of each person with respect, dignity and compassion.  Today, Providence Care is a not-for-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and sponsored by the Catholic Health Corporation of Ontario.

Providence Care provides six 'streams' of care
Patients come to Providence Care for rehabilitation, palliative care, complex continuing care, specialized mental health services (Adult Treatment and Rehabilitation, Geriatric Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry), long term care, and geriatric medicine programs. Our approach to care is holistic - staff and volunteers attend to the medical, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of each person. Since people tend to stay with us longer, this human touch makes all the difference.

Three main sites in Kingston
In the past decade, Providence Care has grown from two sites to three, more than doubling its staff, budget and range of programs and services. This growth was a result of government-directed hospital restructuring, which saw the transfer of rehabilitation programs, specialized mental health services, and forensics to the Providence Care corporation. Today, we operate out of numerous community locations and three main sites: Providence Manor, Mental Health Services, and St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital -all in Kingston.
